Manager of advanced renewable energy technologies and distributed generation, SMUD
Olof Bystrom has 20 years’ experience as an advisor on energy economics and policy. At SMUD, Dr. Bystrom is a manager of advanced renewable energy technologies and distributed generation. He leads strategic planning efforts and integrated resource planning projects. Recently, Dr Bystrom led the development of SMUD’s 2030 Zero Carbon Plan which calls for eliminating all greenhouse gas emissions in SMUD’s power supply by 2030. Prior to joining SMUD, Dr. Bystrom led DNV GL’s Markets&Policy consulting practice for the Americas and prior to that he worked with several consulting and international organizations, including as Director at Cambridge Energy Research Associates (now IHS Markit); Project Manager for ABB’s market advisory service and Climate Change Officer for the United Nations. Dr. Bystrom holds a M.A. and Ph.D. In Economics from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and a BA from University of Stockholm.
